Calvin Payne brings more than two decades of public fire service experience and an extensive background in fire investigation, fire prevention, code compliance, and emergency response to S.C. Fire Consulting. Based in Waxahachie, Texas, just south of the Dallas–Fort Worth area, Calvin provides fire origin and cause investigation and fire code consulting services to clients throughout North Texas.
Calvin’s career includes eight years in a Fire Marshal’s Office, where he served as a Peace Officer and arson investigator and was the lead investigator for structure and vehicle fires. He currently serves as a Deputy Fire Marshal with the University of North Texas System and previously completed 21 years of municipal fire service, retiring at the rank of Battalion Chief. His experience also includes fire code inspections and fire protection system acceptance testing.
Calvin is an IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI), NAFI Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), and NAFI Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (CVFI). His additional credentials include Master Fire Investigator, Master Fire Inspector I & II/Plans Examiner, Master Firefighter, Fire Officer IV, and Fire Instructor III. He is also a licensed Private Investigator in the State of Texas.
Calvin holds a Master of Science in Fire Executive Leadership/Public Administration, a Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Administration, and an Associate of Science in Fire Science. His specialized training includes fire and explosion investigation, electrical and vehicle fires, lithium-ion and energy-storage battery fires, fire protection systems, crime scene investigation, building construction, courtroom testimony, and fire and life-safety code issues.
